Why the change:
The previous iCal was hosted in the Macintech Dot.Maci account. This worked fine from a technical aspect but was inconvenient to manage from two primary aspects:

  1. It required logging in and out of a unique user ID in Mac OSi X. The problem wasn't with the technology -- it was with human nature -- or more specifically *my* human nature. When ever an event date needed to be updated (for example to add the agenda) it wasn't happening since it required additional steps that, again human nature being what it is, just wasn't happening. The new model let's me simply keep one master calendar (mine) and publish a distinct macintech and multimedia calendar that others can share. Since I'm updating the multimedia calendar anyway... the macintech one becomes an easy thing to do
  2. Email Reminders: Because the old calendar was in a unique user ID, and typically wasn't logged in as part of my normal use, sending iCal reminders via email wasn't practical. So -- the new model let's me send a reminder to the Multimedia mailing list and the Macintech mailing lists *automatically* which is very nice. My email and iCal are always running in my primary User ID so this becomes a no brainer (yes, it's a good things since I don't have one Smile

I hope that makes sense and given this new model it should become much easier to keep the two groups master calendars up to date.

On behalf of the Macintech and Multimedia SIG I apologize for any inconvenience this change may have caused.

Sincerely
