Notes from the June 2007 Meeting

We had a great impromptu presentation by Mark on the iPhone -- and we all enjoyed ourselves so much that we only covered the first half of the agenda. Attached are the notes about Pages 2. There are also "before" and "after" PDFs of the example we worked through.

I was very favorably impressed with Pages. It struck me as a cross between the full-featured word processor that Microsoft Word is and the desktop publishing program that PageMaker was. And unlike Word, the interface is uncluttered and clean. If you are used to Keynote or other Apple apps, you'll feel at home almost immediately. For the price, it's an incredibly good way to make your content look professional, since there are a bunch of great templates that come with the program.

The only problem I noted was that when I stacked multiple objects on top of each other, it was sometimes hard to select the object I wanted to manipulate. Even bringing it to the front did not necessarily work.

If you own Keynote, you already have Pages, and I urge you to try it. If you don't have the iWork package, I suggest you get it -- it's a real bargain.
