the drupal.org website ( http://drupal.org/ ) has some great information on installing the core drupal system and related modules.

I found it very helpful and recommend starting with the primary handbook link page here ( http://drupal.org/handbooks ) Their discussion forums ( http://drupal.org/forum ) have specific sections on various sections of using drupal and I found them helpful.

The handbooks are definitely the place to start.
