Join us Thursday, October 25, for the last meeting of 2007!
For those of you thinking ahead for the holidays, we’ll have a presentation on stuff you can make with iLife ’08, including a sample of the new books you can put together with the latest iPhoto. We’ll cover cards and other gifts, as well.
The latest version of Keynote, part of iWork ’08, has some exciting new
features that absolutely trounce PowerPoint. The new Keynote will let you reach Jedi knight status as a presenter!
Last, we will be brainstorming the topics we want to cover in 2008. If you have a need that isn’t being met or a bright idea for a demo, please let us know.
For door prizes, we’re giving away full copies of iLife ’08 and iWork ’08!
A brief listing of keyboard shortcuts for using diacritical marks; and the unrelated discussion on the topic of "How to open things", ie. email attachments from Mac and P.C. users, etc.
I, for example often open attachments in Graphic Converter v. 4.6 (http://www.lemkesoft.com/) for opening graphics. which was at one time included with other Mac programs. I also use ToyViewer, v. 4.90 for Mac OSi X 10.4 (Tiger) from OGIHARA Takeshi

Stuff You Can Do with iLife '08
September's meeting was about stuff you can do with the new iLife '08. We had great presentations from Craig, Mark, and Huc.
Craig talked about a large slideshow project he did for the Photographic Society of America. He used Photoshop to create his slides and then put everything together in iMovie, GarageBand, and iDVD — all from the iLife '08 suite.
Mark and Huc shared their web pages created in iWeb '08, with an emphasis on the new features of this program, particularly the Google add-ons and the HTML snippet feature.
See the attached files for the detailed notes.

We had great presentations — about giving presentations — at the March 2007 Multimedia SIGi meeting (MmSIG). Michelle and Huc did a terrific job of conveying some key information and we enjoyed seeing them put PowerPoint and Keynote through their paces.
Join us at the April meeting for a series of short reviews and "how to's" —
That's Thursday, April 26, at 6:30 pm at the Park Meadows CompUSA.
This is a PDFi of the Keynote presentation for April, as well as notes about the discussion on file naming conventions.

Pages
We've talked about Keynote —now meet the other half of iWork '06. This will give you a good overview of Pages 2, Apple's word processor. With 60 professionally designed templates, you can produce wonderful publications quickly.
HyperMedia — Whither HyperCard?
HyperCard is dead. We'll see demos of several replacement programs, plus how to "fake it" with applications you already own.
We had a great impromptu presentation by Mark on the iPhone -- and we all enjoyed ourselves so much that we only covered the first half of the agenda. Attached are the notes about Pages 2. There are also "before" and "after" PDFs of the example we worked through.
I was very favorably impressed with Pages. It struck me as a cross between the full-featured word processor that Microsoft Word is and the desktop publishing program that PageMaker was. And unlike Word, the interface is uncluttered and clean. If you are used to Keynote or other Apple apps, you'll feel at home almost immediately. For the price, it's an incredibly good way to make your content look professional, since there are a bunch of great templates that come with the program.
The only problem I noted was that when I stacked multiple objects on top of each other, it was sometimes hard to select the object I wanted to manipulate. Even bringing it to the front did not necessarily work.
If you own Keynote, you already have Pages, and I urge you to try it. If you don't have the iWork package, I suggest you get it -- it's a real bargain.
Chris

CompUSA at Park Meadows
6:30 p.m.
Digital Cameras
Remember Show and Tell when you were in first grade? We're having a grown-up version at our meeting on May 24. Bring your digital camera (and your instruction book if you're rusty) and we will have fun looking at what different cameras can do. It doesn't matter if it's a 2 MP antique or the latest 10 MP hottie. We'll have some tips and tricks, as well.
Making the Most of our Multimedia SIGi Website
Learn more about navigating and posting to our website (this thing you're reading right now!).
Recording Your PowerPoint Presentation
Huc will show us how to put together a complete package of the content in your presentation. Learn how to record what you actually say when you present and then meld it with your PowerPoint or Keynote presentation. This is another great way to repurpose your work!
Hypermedia, Part 2
Chris will be continuing her series on hypermedia techniques by demonstrating what you can do with PDFs.
Join us August 23rd at the Park Meadows CompUSA, 6:30 to 9:00 pm!
We had a great time with wonderful presentations from Huc and Mark. Attached are the notes I took.

Our meeting dates would fall on the same week Thanksgiving and Christmas so we've cancelled those sessions.
We hope everyone enjoys a safe and happy holiday season and we look forward to seeing everyone at our first meeting of the new year:
HyperMedia, Part 1
We had such fun talking about the iPhone in June that we didn't get to this topic. The question is, now that HyperCard is gone, whither hypermedia? We'll demo some ways you can create hypercard features with software you already own.
What's Hot in Photoshop CS3?
Craig will give us an overview of the killer new features that make this pricy upgrade worth the money.
We had a great time! Attached is a PDFi of the Keynote file that has notes from both presentations.

Subject: Giving Presentations - becoming a better presenter using PowerPoint or Keynote
Presenter: Michelle Lamoreaux and Brian Huculak
Date: Thursday, March 22, 2007
Location: Multimedia SIGi meeting at CompuUSA - Park Meadows
Comments: Michelle and Huc provided a lot of content on using PowerPoint and Keynote as presentation tools. Perhaps the most important information covered wasn't so much on how to use the products as on how to be a better presenter using specific product features. We also covered some detailed content on how to setup and deliver your content, and on how to be efficient when creating your content (some do's and don'ts particularly related to master slides).
If you attended this session then you'll understand why the keynote and powerpoint 'presentations' aren't posted here
After all, we can't upload our 'presentation' since we can't beam ourselves through the wires
You should visit our Keynote Forum for some helpful information that was covered during the presentation. We've posted the content there in the hopes that everyone can contribute their thoughts on using Keynote and PowerPoint or provide their own hints and tips on being better presenters.
Don't forget we also covered similar subjects in 2006, you should visit this page on making presentations and this info on lectures to learn more.
